Brinsley Powell has been involved with hockey for over 20 years as a player and over a decade as a coach across numerous sections (age, gender, level). He is extremely passionate about the game, and continuing to grow the sport in South Africa.

Brinsley has coached Western Province junior and senior teams in the girls and ladies divisions, as well as in the boys and mens divisions, and has run programmes at Junior and High school levels, as well at a Varsity level. He has also held high ranking positions in Indoor Hockey for over 6 years and continues to be involved in promoting this sector. He has also expanded into the Mental Skills section, as well as Coach and Programme Development.

Hockey runs in Brinsley’s veins, and has played for WP and Kwa-Zulu Natal as well as been a part of a SA High Performance Squad at Junior level. He holds the highest Coaching Accreditation in South Africa (SAHA Level 3). He had this to say about hockey coaching- “I feel that over my time coaching and programme running/development that I have learnt so much in so many ways. The best thing that comes out of coaching for me is watching the players grow their skillset from the start of a session and season to the end, and having fun and growing as people and a team during it. Nothing is better than seeing a face full of joy and happiness at improvement and love for the game.

Brinsley is also well travelled having toured the entire country for coaching (particularly Western Cape, Kwa-Zulu Natal and Gauteng), as well as having experienced overseas hockey cultures and styles in The Netherlands, Germany, Belgium, New Zealand, Malaysia and Singapore, which he feels has added to his coaching immensely.

Specialised Private Training

Personalised sessions where there is an emphasis on the Technical and Tactical understanding. These sessions can also include exact matchplay situations, specialist skills, positional based training, physical literacy for hockey exact movements and mental skills to grow as a player and person.

Sessions can be individual, small group based, or in larger groups.

We strive to have sessions of the utmost quality, with all of our coaches being involved in either top level coaching or playing, to provide knowledge that is relevant and of a high level. Coaches have training in the correct ways to run sessions that flow and have growth based outcomes, whilst providing fun-filled environment.
